I’m an Oregander

I’m an Oregander. At least that’s what I am going to call myself. I am native from Michigan but belong in Oregon. I am SO incredibly lucky to have fallen in love with someone from the beautiful state of Oregon. Every Christmas and lately every summer I am able to head over to Oregon for a week full of family, friends, and adventure! I pretty much have my entire future mapped out in Oregon from where I am going to live, the job I am going to have, and even how I am going to decorate my house. It’s all make-believe right now but I am hoping to make it a reality.

For Christmas I received two different books…one is a book chalked full of running and hiking trails in Oregon all written by a native Oregonian and the second book was all about Bend, OR…this is where I hope to live one day. Anyways, as you can imagine I was BEYOND elated to receive these books and give them a try.

In the Willamette Valley there is a beautiful state park called the “Silver Falls State Park” or Trail of Ten Falls…can you guess how it got its name? That’s right….along a 7-8 mile stretch there is TEN different waterfalls. It was unbelievably breathtaking. There was plenty of climbing, roots, and rocks but my goodness the sites were just too good to be true. Can you imagine having that in your own backyard? That’s the thing about Oregon, beauty is everywhere. From mountains, to oceans, to beautiful state parks…it’s everywhere. You want luscious rolling hills? No problem! How about pine trees and blackberry bushes? Don’t worry, Oregon has that too! It’s just perfect.

The thing I really love most about Oregon is the active community. You can pick any day of the week, rain or shine, and you are bound to pass other runners or hikers. Running becomes so much more enjoyable when you can share it with others. One of the things I love about running is the adventures it can take you on. If I wasn’t able to run I would probably have never seen ten beautiful waterfalls. I may have seen one or two but eight miles is a long way to walk not to mention the amount of time it would take to do so. Because I am a runner I get to see the wonders of the world that so many people don’t get to. It’s really a privilege.

I am so lucky to have the opportunity to travel to such beautiful land and experience things most don’t get to. I can hardly wait to head back and check out more trails…you know since I will be living there some day.

Until next time…
