Running Road Trip

(Setting up for the Ludington Lakestride Race)

What do you get when you give two girls 4 days, multiple pairs of running shoes, tent gear, great trails, a car packed to the brim with ‘just rock’ UR SPORTSWEAR shorts, and about 5 gallons of coffee? Well that would be just another fun filled week/ weekend with the UR SPORTSWEAR team. This past week I had the extraordinary pleasure of showing Jackie (founder of UR SOPRTSWEAR) around my hometown of Wayland.  We had a blast talking to people at the Wayland Road Runners group run on Wednesday, sporting the “just rock” shorts for the 3 mile run and networking with some influential area runners including ‘Marathon’ Don Kern, founder of the Grand Rapids Marathon who holds the record for racing 7 marathons on 7 continents.  It was completely encouraging talking with the runners that were so excited to hear about the company and eager to help with words of encouragement or advice.  It makes me proud to come from a small community with such a strong group of passionate lifelong runners, and I was so pumped to share this with Jackie.

The fun continued throughout the week while Jackie and I tried out the shorts on many of my favorite local runs, even taking the go pro out for a spin to prove that these shorts JUST DON’T RIDE UP! When the weekend hit, we packed up the car and headed up to Ludington for the Lakestride Half Marathon, 10k and 5k.  We were met again with athletes excited about our product, and spent much of race day having great interactions with the runners about sportswear fit, the goals of UR SPORTSWEAR, and how awesomely unique our shorts are. Another car ride, and quite a few coffees later, we were back in Southwest Michigan. We finished off the weekend with a great run through Yankee Springs park to the Devil’s Soup Bowl. This was one of my favorite places to run as a high schooler and I still like to pay it a visit whenever I am in the area.

This weekend I will be heading over to the Ann Arbor half marathon to rock out in my shorts and see if I can chase another PR. This race will be a mental test among everything else because of how soon it is after the Riverbank run, but I’m excited for the challenge and to see how far I can push on tired legs.  I can’t wait be back on the roads I ran so frequently in college. Will post next week to let you know how it goes!
